I made this little snake for a Scavenger Hunt challenge and it seems he has gained some fans already, so I decided to publish a pattern for him. He’s not only very friendly, but also really easy and quick to make! He can guard your crochet hook or wrap around a pencil to keep you company.
Finished measurements: 16.5cm/6.5″ long
- 2.5mm hook
- fingering yarn – I used about 6.5m/7.1yd
The yarn I used is Knit Picks Comfy fingering.
- two 3mm beads and a needle and thread to sew them on
- pipe cleaner ( a bit longer than you want your snake to be)
Ok, so let’s start!
1. 6sc in the second ch from the hook (6)
2. inc x3, 3sc (9)
3. – 4. 9sc (9)
Now take the pipe cleaner and fold the end of it twice to form a head. It’s optional, but will give the snake’s head a nice shape.
Then, insert the pipe cleaner to the head – from now on you’ll be crocheting around the pipe cleaner.
5. (dec, 1sc) x3 (6)
6. – 36. (or however long you want the snake to be) 6sc (6)
37. (dec, 1sc) x2 (4)
38. dec x2 (2)
Fasten off, sew the opening closed. Sew the beads between the rows 3 and 4. And that’s it!
